Orang Utan Republik Foundation Launches Student Sponsorship Program for Indonesian Youth

OURF is launching an innovative online support program that helps Indonesian youth become conservation educators.

The Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF), in conjunction with The Orangutan Project (TOP), is proud to announce the holiday launch of the Student Sponsorship Program, an e-certificate gifting platform that enables you to easily support OURF’s Orangutan Caring Scholarship (OCS) program by becoming a Scholarship Guardian. This life-changing program has already awarded 172 multi-year scholarships to deserving Indonesian students attending university in the fields of biology, forestry, and veterinary science. Nearly 100 scholarship recipients have already graduated, with many now working for nonprofit conservation organizations supporting orangutan survival.

“It’s critical to involve local people in conservation efforts,” OURF Director Dr. Gary Shapiro explains. “The new Student Sponsorship Program will keep the OCS thriving in the years ahead.”

Potential donors can learn about six exceptional students who represent the entire scholarship program. The students were nominated by the implementing organizations that locally promote and manage the OCS.

“When you sponsor a student, you’ll receive a student biography and an e-Certificate of Guardianship,” Shapiro says. “You can also follow your student’s progress as they submit periodic updates on their matriculation.”

Patterned after the orangutan adoption programs, funds collected by this program will be used to support all of the students who are receiving fiscal support.
